Howdy y'all. I've been off the forum while I've been frantically trying to finish up the semester, my Masters Degree, and learn music for the millions of concerts I've been in lately (3 this week 4 next week). I have some great news though that I can now share with everyone. I have been invited to be a member of the Indianapolis Opera Ensemble! Basically it's one of the apprenticeship programs that opera companies run to break in young opera singers, and to weed out the also-rans. I'll be singing a decent sized role (Remendado) in the mainstage production of "Carmen" in the fall, and then I'll be traveling around with the other members of the program to schools, civic clubs, etc, around the state of Indiana in the winter and spring next year doing outreach kind of stuff. It's the first step in getting this whole opera career thing going. I'm totally psyched up for it, because I had no idea what I was going to be doing next year. That's it for now. Stay tuned as well for a recital date sometime this summer. I have to get one in in the near future to fully meet my graduation requirements.

Congratulations!
You could do a small recital in Vermont. Hmm...can you picture it? A small crowd of unshowered riders racing through beer tickets, you singing some tragic operatic piece - dressed in a stich (or equivalent). :ha

I can tell you that I've never been to an opera where I've had my ticket checked when I've reentered the hall after the first act. You may use that information however you wish. :idea

Yipee!!!!
Having worked for a Opera company for a while, I know your situation all to well (allbeit, I wasn't singing but rather playing instruments).

Congrats!!
So will you be having your own concert stage at 07 rally?

I don't even want to think about the logistics of getting a concert grand into the rally site, in one piece, and in tune. And man, I'm just going to want to party.

Been there and done that, and then had to get it back on the truck. That is two phone calls no worries. Then again there is always a synthesizer... prerecorded might be better
Anyway congrats. When you get up to my neck of the woods mi casa es su casa.

Also having heard you sing in front of a group of unshowered drunk bikers, I think you should give it a shot.

Seriously though, I'm happy for you Garth. I just hope your new gig doesn't cut into your riding time.

Barbara Bonney came to town to sing for a local benefit (she went to HS here) and I heard she was looking for an up-and-comer from the midwest to take on tour next year....
I hear she likes lobster, too.

Sorry for the delay y'all, I've been from end of the state to the other for Holy Week gigs and some rehearsals. Alas, I won't be able to make it to the RUT because I have a concert on Friday, coachings on Saturday, and another concert on Sunday. I am going to be heading down to GMR with my dad and some of the MO crew if anyone else is going.
Synthesizer?!?! *YUCK* I wouldn't get away with prerecorded, I'd end up "going off the ranch" and then would be in a heap of trouble without a real person behind the keys.

I'm not sure yet John. I'm not totally sure where I'm going to be living yet in the Fall. I'm housesitting this summer for someone who has a garage, so I'm at least covered for that.

She nailed the suckah. We are SO not accustomed to a performer of her calibre.
She sang with other "hired guns," a mezzo soprano from Montreal, a tenor,
and a bass along with our own local Oratorio Chorale (http://www.oratoriochorale.org/).
Big Mozart anniversary programme.
Someday we'll hear YOU as the "Hired Gun" at one of these shindigs....

Can this be 'Sticky'd' somewhere, I mean what a wonderful life and such 'Spirit' for living.
Godspeed Garth, you will be missed by all of us.
May you sing in the greatest 'Orchestra In The Heavens Of The Kingdom Of God'
Garth Eppley, taken too young from this world on April 20, 2006 at the age of 25.
May his memory live on in all who knew him and all who loved him.

My thoughts exactly. Last night, I went back and read through this thread as I'm sure many others have. Let's give it a bump for awhile. I'm hoping that the organization will take the lead.
Garth was an inspiration and added so much to the forum : with his passing the contribution continues.

I too will be raising a glass or three (or more). The fragility of life hits us when we least expect it. My thoughts are with his friends and family. As well to the others who experienced a loss in this accident.
May he rest in peace.
PS: Reading his last thread really hurt.

Sing, dance and play well Garth, and all of us,for who knows what tomorrow brings?

I'm not a real religious person but I have my faith in God. I think there is too much going on in the world today too much of a lot of things...
Maybe He needed another 'Angel' (or five to be exact) right now, to help Him help us down here; help find the answers to all of the problems going on around the world.
I firmly believe that everything happens for a reason. That reason may not sit well with many, and the loss of Garth and his friends are felt by many, but if you sit on the back porch of your house, or around a campfire, look up at the stars and if you are real quiet for a moment and reflect; you may just hear Garth and his friends sing 'softly' to you.
Or, next time anyone of us 'walks-away' from a crash, it wasn't our time yet, maybe it was divine intervention and that Angels name was Garth Eppley.

I just found this thread (and those related) recently. The above quote appears to be his next to the last on the forum and just two days before his death. :-(
Such a casual statement made in the exhuberance of youth.
And yet we never know what is at the next turn. The longer I slide down the path of life, the more I am determined to try to enjoy each day to its fullest, do the best I can, and not put off that which is important. Sometimes it is the simple things that are important.

We very much missed Garth at the Yankee Beemers Pemi campout this weekend. There is something so nice about the fact that he'd storm in all the way from Indiana to hang with us oldsters.
