Wondering if any airheads out there using the Dyna lll electronic ignition, and are they happy with it? Was it easy to install, how durable are they, and how much maintenance do they need, if any?

And after I adjusted my jets, I don't top out at 76 no more.

Thanks.

I had Dyna III in a 1975 R90/6 and a 1978 R100/7. Followed directions for installation without any problems. Sure was nice not having to mess with points from then on.

I've got one on my '78 R100/7. I like it. It's the second one in about 20 years. First one died when one of the pickup coils failed to "pickup". It might have been a grounding problem but I never looked any deeper. It's a little fiddly but straight forward. Once set, it doesn't require any more effort. Caution...don't tighten the "donut" onto the camshaft too tight...it can distort somewhat. Advantage to be able to set the firing point for each cylinder independently and should smooth the engine pulses out. I like the fact that it uses the original advance unit...other's don't like that feature. There are various Boyer ignitions which has a computerized advance curve built in. Another caution...always keep the original plate, points, and condensor with you when you ride. DAMHIK...

Yep, good thing,imo.... Iput the Dyna3 in mine quite some time back(maybe 10 years or more) and love it vs. points. I have 280K on the bike now and the biggest performance improvement came at higher rpm's. Much smoother and no floating points. I've had the bike 28 years and would have done this at the beginning, if I had known how much better the Dyna3 was! My fuel mileage did not change, but overall engine performance improved. Like I said, I run the full rpm range, too 6 and 7000 rpm's on occasion and this is where the BIG difference is. Easy to put in, at about 2 hours, max..Reg Pridmore is friend from past days and he once told me," If I can't kill it on the track, what makes you think you can out on the road!" Speaking of 70's vintage BMW iron...For those not informed of past racing days of glory and BMW, Reg was a world class champion, riding Beemers. Happy Trails...

I also posted in the K bike forum under "Any one out there 5ft 7 and riding a K1100RS?"

I guess I'm just old, but it was so awesome watching the British motorcycle cops in action a few weeks ago while in Europe. I had a very good seat high up in the bus. Anyway, I was envious - I wish I had that kind of power and handling in my R90.

But reality sets in - I just ride to commute - the R90 is fine. And I don't think I would have the reflexes required, or have access to that kind of training - and they do it every day on the road - legally of course, cause they're cops.

I guess I'm aging into the cruiser mind set. I just hate admitting I'm getting old.

Hi, my wife's R60/7 has had a Dyna ignition installed since 1987 with no problems.

My R90/6 has a Boyer Digital ignition and I like it as well.

Regards, Rod.
