It's been a rough day...
Our dog, Justice was put to sleep this afternoon lying in her favorite place, in front of the warm fireplace in our living room. She was 12 1/2 years old. Today, she was in so much pain she couldn't stand up. This photo is from one of the happiest days of her life at Limantour Beach in Point Reyes, right after we moved to California. She will be cremated and her ashes will be spread out there. She was a great dog and will be missed. Our home feels empty.

I was lucky enough to meet Justice and to pet her. It makes me sad but
at the same time, glad I had the chance to meet her.
While all dogs go to heaven, we keep them in our hearts forever. It's nice to
know my guys, Ben, Magnum and Sam will have such a cool doggie to keep
them company.

I am so very sorry for your loss. I know the grief that you are feeling and how empty your home feels.
Thanks for sharing the beautiful pictures of Justice.

It's harder than we realize when we lose a "fur kid". We place quite a bit of ourselves in them and cherish the unconditional love they return. Thank you for having the strength to deal with your "kid's" pain and the compassion for letting her go in comforting surroundings. Keep the memories alive. Do something nice for yourselves and then go and find another "fur kid". It won't be a replacement, just another part of life to love.

Sorry to hear about that Steve, I know all too well what that loss feels like. As you and some other members know, I lost my three-year old German Shepherd a little over a year ago; he is still missed.
I know this is difficult to say, but maybe you and Mrs. Burnszilla should take the car and roll the back windows down for her. I know I couldn't (or didn't feel like it) ride a motorcycle for several weeks after, hell I cried every time I passed the woods near our home where I buried him, granite grave marker and all. It was hard.
This was Casey in a happier moment too.

Stephen & Sharon - we all share your loss. Many of us know what it feels like, and know how hard it is. We take strength in knowing how good they made our lives, and hope we did the same for them. Geri and I have had 3 shelties we've had to say good-bye to, and we have two in the house now that make us feel like the greatest people on the earth every single time we come home! We miss the 3 that are gone, but try to keep remembering all the really good times with them.

So sorry for your loss. Our family has experienced the joy as well as the loss of dogs.
Justice looks like a dandy animal. Remember all the good times.

Priceless.
I was just reading a Neuroscience newsletter about how every gene in the dog genome is the is the same as it is in the human genome with similar function.
The video seems to echo that.

Thank the wisdom of God that dogs live such a short time. If they lived longer we could not bear the pain of their passing

Stephen, we understand your sadness and wish you well. We had to put our 11 year old Huskey down on May 5th of last year. Kato was a wonderful family companion. Kato was always on the back deck waiting and wagging his tail every time we would get home from a rally or ride. We think of him often.
As JimBud said "And then one day it will be time for another"... Quigley, an eight week old Golden Retriever joined the family last October 25th. He is such a joy!
Best to you...

"If Dogs don't go to Heaven...I want to go where they go...." MARK TWAINAnother of my favorites, although due to advanced CRS I can't cite the author right now - "The more I learn about people, the more I like my dog."
We just lost Bandit, our 6-1/2 year old male tri-color Sheltie to kidney failure after a 2 year battle on February 28th. Having to hold him while he was being put down at such a young age was one of the most difficult situations I've experienced. You have my heartfelt sympathy.

Sorry to hear of your little buddy passing on. I am fighting tears right now thinking of my buddy Bear, who passed on over two years ago. Then I see the picture of the white Lab pups, they look just like Bear did when he was little...

I am very sorry to hear of your loss. I lost Rommel, my 14 year old German Shepherd mix, 2.5 years ago, I know what you are going through and hard it is. While it never goes away completely, it will get better with time.

Lost a 5 year old lemon and white beagle to canine lupus a few years ago. After lots of prednizone, two ICU stays in a hyperbaric chamber (due to secondary pneumonia) and about 7.5 K in vet bills (would have sold the RS at the time to keep Scooter with us), the little guy succombed. He will never be replaced, but we rescued 2 more beagles shortly thereafter and we love them too.
Dogs are God's gift. Sorry for your loss.

Justice is happy, young and pain free now. So sorry for your loss. I dread the day I'll have to put my Chica to sleep.

A not so simple quote comes to mind right now: "You gotta know, you just gotta know".
I'm a dog lover and I know. My sympathies.
