New event for 2016!
Come visit one of America’s greatest towns with Pikes Peak and spectacular riding at your door step. Colorado Springs is a motorcyclist’s dream town. You can spend your Getaway weekend by never leaving town or you can ride into the mountains and not spend any time in town at all, the choice is yours. Either way, you won’t be able to see it all.
In less time than it takes to gas up, you and your bike can be climbing the historic Pikes Peak Highway to the summit at 14,110 feet. Or, you could opt to ride the famous Cog Railroad. The view of Aspens turning golden will be a memory for a lifetime.
From the base of Pikes Peak you are a very short ride away from Garden of the Gods, one of the most visited natural attractions in the country and it’s free! Another quarter hour ride brings you to the gates of the United States Air Force Academy. Tours are available of this prestigious institution.
Turning back into town you could choose to tour the U.S. Olympic Training Center, the incredible Cheyenne Mountain Zoo, Fine Arts Center, Old Colorado City, Manitou Springs or downtown. If you still have an hour or so before returning to our Getaway home stop by the Penrose Heritage Museum and learn about the history of “C.S. Co.” from stage coaches to the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb. The museum is free and on the grounds of world famous “The Broadmoor.” If this is your last stop you’re in luck because you’re less than five minutes from your Getaway room straight down the street.
Not interested? Want a fall ride in the grandeur of Colorado? OK, we have you covered. Within two miles of your door, the loop can start to Canyon City and the Royal Gorge Bridge. You can easily make a day ride through Canyon City to Salida through the Arkansas river canyon, up to Buena Vista, over Wilkerson pass, detour and loop through Cripple Creek to Divide, Woodland Park, and down Ute pass back into C.S., Co. You will have ridden all the way around Pikes Peak!
We will have riders available to tell you, and possibly show you, how to do many parts of this route “the dirty way.” Early fall in the Rockies is something not to be missed. I guess Katherine Lee Bates (a visitor to Colorado Springs) summed it up better than I can; “O beautiful, for spacious skies, For amber waves of grain, For purple mountain majesties Above the fruited plains.” It’s an inspiring town.
Member registration will open April 1 and the event fee will be $89 per person. This will include a reception on Friday night, dinner on Saturday night, a bag full of goodies along with an event t-shirt and a chance at several highly desirable door prizes. Come on out, you’ll have a good time!
