This
place is in the middle of nowhere, and was nowhere near full the night I stayed. The
Natural Bridges are rock formations and adjoin the campgrounds. No showers.
Logan Canyon Area
According to Brooks Tyler of Moab,. it is hard too beat the riding and camping in this
area North of Ogden & Salt Lake City, especially at the end of September. "The
reds and oranges from the trees turning is like fire on the mountain." There are a
number of National Forest Service campgrounds along Highway 89.
Mirror Lake Scenic Byway
Dave Riley says: Although not a very well-kept secret (hundreds of motorcycles
flock to this area on the weekends), the Mirror Lake Scenic Byway (SR 150)
between Kamas, UT and Evanston, WY is among the best places to camp in America.
The road winds for 42 miles through the Uinta mountains, ranging in elevation
from 7,000 to 12,000 feet. Its 400 fish-abundant lakes (and then there are the
streams) are easily accessible from your choice of 22 campgrounds. It's a great
place to go to escape the summer heat. Spring and autumn are a little on the
chilly side, but with autumn's fire-colored mountains, the chill is well worth
braving.
Zion National Park
This area is only second to Yosemite National Park. Great winding roads, great camping
grounds, and lots of little side trails to occupy your down time. Go in the spring or fall
when it's not so hot.
